Back to Butler

It's been a while since I have been catching up on blogs.  But this past week, Christopher has been attending ICC camp.   ICC is Indianapolis Children's Choir, and it meets on the campus of Butler University.  Back in our day, we hated those kids.  Pompous and spoiled.  And their parents traipsed right in, doing whatever they wanted, just as arrogant, in our space.  We were not fans, I didn't care how good they sang.

Well, now the shoe is on the other foot.  Now I'm the parent.  Now I see what an amazing thing this organization does.  They are getting kids to Sing; I mean the musicality alone is astonishing, but the confidence it gives the kids, it's huge.  And my mother in law thought that Chris might benefit from it.   I blame her, it was all her idea.  But I kind of loved the idea.

Every time he practices the piano, he sings along.  He'll be learning the piece and Miss L will have to tell him to stop singing the words, and just learn the music first.  He loves to sing.  But because of his hearing issues, he's a bit flat sometimes.  Still, when he's on, he's ON.  Even Miss L has commented, he really can sing.  I know.  And he could be really great, if he had a great teacher.

He wanted to go.   So we sent him.  To ICC Day Camp.  Turns out 3rd Grade is the youngest that can attend the camp, and he wanted to do it, so we signed him up.  And last Monday, after our Great Wolf trip, was his first day.  It was a pain in the butt to get all 4 of us up and dressed and to Butler by 9, but it was worth it.

ICC has a website and they published pictures of the kids during the day camp.  I could immediately tell my sweetboy was having a great time, and learning to sing.

They posted these pictures on their website, and it's perfectly clear, he was having some fun.

And I could see just how wonderful a time he had when I picked him up.

It was absolutely worth it to see his happy face.
I am not so sad to become one of "those parents" of "those kids" now; nope, not at all.

In other news, I just wanted to show off some other mad stuff I found, while on campus, because it had been a while since I'd explored Lilly hall.  Back in our day, we used to joke about them using our tuition money for park benches.  Looks like they've upgraded, now using "hydration stations" instead of water fountains.

And the Toilet Paper dispensers in the bathroom are Blue and say Butler University.
I did kind of love the FP box of samples, though.  That's brilliant.
Oh well, I guess they Finally had enough park benches.
