Joy of Love, Day 5

What we Love to Hate:

Today? Snow.

2 inches of Ice got topped off with 6 inches of snow today. I Love it, but at the same time, I hate it. I took the boys out to "Play" in it. Sam wanted desperately to go out and Play, but really he doesn't like it much. It was a tossup today as to whether or not we'd actually leave the house, which let me tell you, the boys really need to Do, but they didn't really want to. Except Daddy. Daddy had to leave. It was more fun when he was working from home. Now he's way behind on the new house, and he's got boatloads of homebuilding to make up for, and lots of work to do, so he's gone. A Lot. On Weekends. Nope, none of us like it when Daddy has to leave. :(

Joy of Love, Day 4

Today's assignment was to focus was "What they Wear." Here you see a boy in his Buzz Lightyear pajamas, determined to go outside, so much so that he puts his boots on the wrong feet, pretty standard for my boy.

It was Time to Get Out.

We have been home with the boys since Monday afternoon. I escaped to Book Club last night, but thought today would be a perfect day to venture forth to the Children's Museum. Alas, Christopher disagreed. He didn't want to get dressed. My children having been living in their jammies for the last four days. (Granted, I do Change the jammies, but they are still jammies.) 4 days.

So I told him, he had a choice, get dressed and go to the Museum, or stay home. He chose stay home. Ugh. I was commiserating with my girlfriend Kathleen, and she said, Eh, come to our house, we're still in our jammies, you might as well stay in yours. Hmm...2 birds. Let's Go! So Chris put his boots on Over his pajama bottoms and off we went to Emily's house. He was thrilled, I was thrilled. Friends. Food. And it was Good.

Joy of Love, Day 3

Today's assignment was Then and Now, a transition over time. And also today, Chris helped me make Strawberry and Rosemary Scones. Now of course, since we've been stranded in the house the last three days, I didn't quite all the required ingredients. We substituted the kids' whole milk for heavy cream, and instead of powdered sugar I concocted a mix of lemon juice, splenda and corn starch.

Tastes Scrumptious!

I'm exercising extreme willpower by not eating every single one of them. In the mean time, I took a couple pictures of Chris helping me cook...and eat. Today's focus was changes over time, with a particular focus on getting in close, and/or cropping afterwards. I did a bit of cropping and created this collage using Picasa.

Strawberries that the boy helped pick back in spring 2009, we made jam, and then used that jam as an ingredient in our Strawberry and Rosemary Scones.

Fun and Tasty!

Joy of Love, Day 2

I'm doing this month long photography study on Loved ones, called The Joy of Love.

Today, our focus was 'How They Look'. We were to try to capture our loved ones doing something true to form, she even used the phrase, something that SCREAMS my loved one.

Well, this is Chris at mealtime. Yup, that's how he looks, when we make him take a bit of broccoli (or really any food he swears up and down he doesn't like before he even tries it).

Capture their essence. This is Chris watching cartoons while being Iced in, still in his jammies...of course his bat cape is hanging backward around his neck, as he chews his fingers mindlessly.

Don't know where he gets this. ;)

He's so beautiful when he's focusing on stomping on the snow and ice.

Hard to see, slightly smiling, he gives me one eyed pirate winky smile.

Love this boy.

Icepocalypse

They predicted lots of ice and snow. Well, we've gotten a nice mix of both. We got a base coat Monday night into yesterday of about 1/2 inch of ice. Now we're Iced in, and last night we got a good 2 inches of snow/ice combination covering everything, and the way it came down, it's like it's drifted into ice hills. This morning we've gotten a slight dusting on top, so you really can't tell if it's snow or ice where you step.

Good bet it's Ice.

Chris and I ventured out for a 'garden walk', you know, where I just go around and take pictures.

Yeah, I was sliding all over the front yard, there was No Way, I was going in back. Even the kids had trouble.

As dangerous as it is, at least it's Pretty. These were snowflakes trapped in layers of ice on our mailbox...incidently also iced shut.

Poor Fina, first thing this morning, she just skidded right down this side of our backyard, worse than this video. The later, she literally got stuck in peepee position as she slid down to the willow out back. Then this, where she didn't even want to pee at all. Poor flews.

Joy of Love, Day 1

I started a month long photography class today, called the Joy of Love, at the recommendation of a friend of mine. It seemed appropriate, given February's focus on all things Love. This class is going to help me take better pictures with some minor tutorials and commentary.

Because I'm posting on the internet, in mass hysteria, I decided to give a watemark a try. Let me know what you think.

Day 1 Assignment, "What they Do"

I chose to show one pic I snapped this morning, with the boys doing what they do best, Chris and Sam were watching cartoons, while Daddy was working on the computer. This is what they DO while we're snowed/iced in.

And this one, well, that seems to be what Sam "Does" a lot lately in general.

Ice Ice Babies

Round 1 has hit for what is termed as being a possible Catastrophic snowstorm. I've been jokingly calling it Snowpocalypse after a friend mentioned it. They say we may lose power and if we do, it'll be a while before we get it back. I don't know if it will be the be-all-end-all disaster they are planning. Blessedly, Eric stayed home today, schools and social activities are cancelled so my loved ones are safely ensconced at home. We did go out for a little front yard skating and a yard walk. We're expecting more Gluk this afternoon/evening.

Thought all 3 of you who read might enjoy some video of the boys being adorable on the 1/2 inch of ice. In the mean time, Enjoy!

Chris has a war with ice chunks.

Sam with boots.

And theoretically, you can see some posted photos here.
