Packing Lunches

186/365

I packed a lunch for Chris today. We sent him off to Jr. Civic Theatre Preschool Day Camp, Fairy Tale Players. It was strange. I know it's something I'll be doing a lot of, packing lunches for him, but this was my first time. I've sent him to eat with others, but not packed him a lunch. I don't know it just got me thinking, how soon it's going to be when he's in school, and I'll be So Tired of packing his lunches, or making him pack his own.

He grows so fast.

Packing a lunch for him, peanut butter sandwich, with no jelly, just like he likes it. When he got home from class. He remembered the sandwich. He remembered that I forgot to pack the spoon; actually he remembered there were peaches, that he couldn't eat because there was no spoon. He remembered the note, he said it was His Paper, it had his name on it. Just hope he remembers it said I LOVE YOU CHRIS.

Impromptu

186/365

We kept pretty busy this weekend. Saturday we were in the Brownsburg 4th of July Parade, and then after naps we went down to friend's for a wingding on Saturday night. We got hot, sunburned and bugbitten, but it was great time. Sunday we went to church, skipping out early to see our friend Kathleen in the band performing in Speedway. More heat and humidity but the band was great. After naps we went to visit Eric's parents for barbecue, fireworks on TV, and the boys even dashed through the sprinkler in the backyard. Sam wasn't a fan, and Chris was apprehensive but kind of warmed up eventually.
After such a busy weekend, we didn't have much cooking today. But my sister and I decided to meet up at the indoor playground; a simple idea really, watch the kids, sit in the A/C. Alas, when we pulled in, the church was closed for the holiday.
Snarf.
So we discussed, and on the spur of the moment, we decided to go to Mulberry Fields, the park with a sprinkler area. Step 1, Brunch. Lisa brought Chick Fil-A! And the kids had a lovely breakfast. Chris loved seeing his Charlie, my niece who turned 2 months old today.

Since we hadn't planned it, we didn't have swimsuits. Lisa had a couple swim diapers. Chris and Annie put them on, and off they went....

The kids played in the sprinklers.

Love Sam playing the part of trashy baby running through the sprinkler in his diaper. Wish he'd wanted to play in the water a bit more. He didn't mind getting gently misted, or dipping feet, but not getting outright wet. He was content to pick up rocks and chase his cousin.

These three look alike. Not just wilting in the shade, but the three of them all make the same faces.

But it was hot. And we were hot. We found some shade, and that made it bearable for a bit, but we had to call it a day. Daddy had been reorganizing the garage, and doing some cutting of cement board for the bathroom. The boys and I came home, napped. When we woke up, I was able to park my car in the garage again! Surprise! Then we had supper, and we were sitting down to watch 1776, when we got a call.

Our friend Emilie had a surprise, her family, also our friends, were in town and wanted to spontaneously meet up at Dairy Queen for ice cream. So we did. A perfect end to the happy holiday weekend.

From Sea to Shining Sea

184/365

Our church did a float (OK, I had nothing to do with it, just this awesome blended family with 4 teenagers!) for the VBS - Vacation Bible School we're having next week. If you saw it and are interested, check out the link. They invited kids from our church to attend the Brownsburg 4th of July Parade, so we went.

Chris and Sam showing off their VBS sailor hats.

Chris gives a patriotic salute from the boat as we get ready to move out.

The parade float starts moving Chris starts waving to his public, and joins the other kids in throwing lollipops. Sam caught candy in the stroller a couple times. Following the float was really great because they had bubbles blowing off the back, the kids loved it, t'was very cool.

I've never done this Parade before..honestly my parade experience (minus DisneyWorld parades, where you see like 3 a day) is pretty sparse. This was my first non-band experience too. Obviously it was the first time Chris and Sam were in a Parade. So to be in a parade in our town where it seems like everywhere I turned I saw someone I recognized, well it's just Awesome.

Awesome to be free to wave at our friends from a float, Awesome to be free enough to advertise our Church, and Super Awesome to be living in a country where I am free to worship as I please.

Praise the Lord, God Bless America!

Fish and Fam

183/365

A quiet day for the boys and I. My back is doing better, but since I want to Play this weekend, we took it easy today. Yesterday was my Mother-in-law's birthday, so to celebrate, we all went for sushi tonight. We love sushi. And we got a boatful, and tried some new things, and what a great way to start a holiday weekend!

Crummy picture quality, I know, but my camera phone takes grainy pictures, even moreso when my hands are covered with tempura and sauces from feeding the kids. There are worse things.

Thursday Thirteen

182/365

What Ere Bloomin' in our garden. I got to do a Garden Walk today.

1. Campanula Yeah I had to look it up, I didn't remember this one, but THAT'S why I keep the tags from the container planted in the dirt at the base of obscure plants.

2. Spirea I'm just thankful this year the bees don't seem to have made a nest in it.

3. Celosia I planted these on my garden walk, at my sister's suggestion, she said they like the sun and when they grow up they were So Pretty. I find I agree with her more and more!

4. Magenta Geranium From the pots on the back porch.

5. Fuschia Impatient Chris brought this one home from his Kindermusik class, and I managed to not kill it indoors. We moved it outside (Together!) before our vacation and she still seems to be happy.

6. Fuschia Petunia I Love these New Wave petunias, they are just So Cheery!

7. Clematis Can't go wrong with these, they come back, grow alot, and make mailboxes look so happy.

8. Red Impatient Got a bucket of these on the front porch, to go with one of the flavors of the celosia, but the front porch gets lots of shade. And oh yeah, they're happy too.

9. Stargazer Lily These smell so good, and this year our plant grew taller than Chris!

10. Peace Rose Mrs. Mamaduck built her nest right under this plant, figuring roses would keep out predators, I guess so. But they also bloom purdy too.

11. Marigold Wanted another sunshiney something. My Mom always had these, and I hoped they keep the bunnies away; they did, but we got ducks instead. ;)

12. Black Eyed Susan These happy daisy cousins are strong and hearty, and just starting their summer blooms.

13. Purple Coneflower. My favorite of the day! I got LUCKY, a butterfly landed while I was taking pictures.
