March of Crazy

115/365

First of all, I'd really like to thank all of you who donated to our March of Dimes March for Babies this year. I was bummed I didn't meet my goal, but we made a nice dent, and as you know, Every little bit helps, and you helped make a difference. I mean, look a my boys, where would be if not for an organization like the March of Dimes. I've had 2 fairly miraculous pregancies, followed by births requiring c-sections; there was a time that either one of those factors would have made it impossible for these kids to get here, and Don't even get me started about Chris and his issues. That's "a whole nother story".

So this morning, listening Sam's early morning mumbles, I heard Rain. I ignored it. I slept on, and when I woke up, it wasn't raining. Clouds all around me, but not on me. There were doubts about doing the March of Dimes March for Babies in the rain, but I was determined. I wanted my kids to go, I wanted to do the walk. Don't Tell me that Rain is going to keep me from something I believe in. Psha!

And so we went.

It was not raining when we arrived, but I was only able to go register, and get my shirt, and THEN it started raining. At first we hung out in tents, there were a few ;). Chris was particularly partial to the NICU reunion tent where they had a Jump-n-play. Good times for him. As you can imagine, he did Not want to leave his jumpy thing to go out and walk in the rain.

Again, Mommy was determined.

So, we loaded up the stroller and headed to the start line, the kids wearing raingear, and Mommy and Daddy wishing we'd packed something. And We crossed the Start Line!!!!

As we crossed the bridge we had to stop no less than 4 times, just crossing the bridge, because of Sam yelling, or throwing his milk, or screaming when we took it back. Then Chris wanted a snack. We crossed the bridge, which backs up to the Zoo. The majority of the racers turned right to follow the White River, but I noticed a few turning right...and heading for the Zoo parking lot, which just happened to be where we parked. Once again we stopped. It didn't take much pushing for us to choose to go to the car.

Instead of marching 3.1 miles for babies, we only made it .13.

Was I crazy? Yup. Was I glad we did it. Yup? We were cold, wet, and dripping. I don't know that we were sufficiently bundled, Sam was happy to get in the car, he worked his milk, and we went to brunch at the Pit Stop. The little boys had worked up an appetite, and split a Belgian Waffle bigger than my head. Yeah, they ate, and it was the most relaxing comforting meal I'd had in a long time.

Tell you what, we may not have walked like we wanted to, but we made an appearance. What was important here, not that we completed the walk, but that we brought awareness to the Cause, the March of Dimes, and the research they do that Saves Moms and Babies. We raised Funds for a very important cause, near and dear to my heart, for without them, I really don't know that I would be here...let alone, here with my 2 mostly healthy boys.

Another Beautiful Day

So, I'm sure you're thinking to yourself, Oh My Goodness, what a beautiful day. How wonderful it is that I can enjoy this. Or even better, that I can go outside and play with my beautiful child(ren). What amazing works God creates, our children, even more amazing when we observe them outdoors, surrounded by other amazing things God has created. But some of us aren't so lucky.

Some little ones didn't get to go out and play today.

Some parents didn't get to go out and play with their children today.

I did. I am Blessed that I have my two beautiful children to go play outside with, who are healthy enough to go to the Zoo. My boys are not restricted by wires, and tubing, or stuck in a hospital, or worse yet, just Gone. And because I am so Thankful, I am all the more charged up to do the March of Dimes Walk for Babies.

If you feel so compelled, please support us in this walk. We could use your financial support, as well as your Prayers.

Can't Keep a Sweetboy Down

88/365

I could go into great detail about how crummy today started out. But to sum up, first Eric and I learned we wouldn't be going to the Butler game, and that made me sad. Then I took Sam to the doctor for his 1 year, and help hold him down while he had to get 2 shots, and then the doctor wanted bloodwork too. After naps we got blood taken. That made me sadder. To sum up, he's Tiny, and they don't like it. I'll elaborate another time.

My poor baby, the pincushion.

What boggles the mind is, that I intended to take a picture of him with all his bandaids, looking all pitiful, Only Sam doesn't DO pitiful and sad. He wouldn't hold still. He wanted to play. I tried grabbing a foot to get a picture of the leg bandaids...he giggled, and tried to roll over. He was trying to play with me, with the camera, and roll over off the changing table. I don't remember Chris doing that. It could be worse, whatever it is that is causing Sam to not gain weight, well, at least he's not Failing To Thrive. I don't think they're going to be saddling this talkative wiggly little minx with that label.
This boy...we can't keep him down.

I was bummed at first we wouldn't be at the Game...but Perspective Man, as my sister would say, and as Eric said, "Well, we'll either go to the game, or we won't." His cool head, made me cool. (That's #147 why I love him so, he's cool when I'm a basket case.) And in fact, that calmness carried over...for a while. Long enough for us to be distracted by friends, and this evening I took the boys on a walk around the block in the crisp spring air. Refreshing. I'll be just fine if I get to spend the evenings with my family, or our friends. In fact, I'm Pretty Spanking Happy to not be trying to catch the Game from some Hospital.

Reminds me, speaking of Miracle Babies, it might be time for another shameless plug. Perpective Man.

Marching for Sweetboys

It's that Time of Year again. Time for the March for Babies for the March of Dimes!

Last year, a friend of mine welcomed her first son into the world 3 months premature. Little A was due just a week after Sam. We are walking on their team, Team Little A, this year to celebrate the wondrous miracles of our Sam and Chris, and their Andrew, and all the little babies and moms that the March of Dimes helps.

2 years ago, I gave you, my friends and family, 24 hours notice that I was CALLED to do this walk, and we pulled 150$ together. How much more can we do this time?!

Thank You!

Amazing

OK. I just have to thank you guys, my friends. I am amazed to report than in less than 24 hours, I was able to raise over $150. That is awesome. Just awesome. I am so honored to have such friends that leap to the occasion like that.

We had a lovely time at the walk. I had no idea Plainfield had so many parks! We were at Hummel park, and it was HUGE in comparison to Arbuckle Acres where we normally go. Turns out it wasn't a 4 mile walk, it was 4K. Slight difference. 4K is only 2 1/2 miles. But still with the walking to and fro the parking lot, it was still pretty neat. I know that March of Dimes focuses a lot on prematurity, but I was surprised at how much they support all births. Not just birth defects but all births...All Babies. They do what they can so that we can have the happy "fairy tale" ending. It made my eyes cloud up a bit to hear someone say that that's why they do what they do, that if they can make it so 1 more baby doesn't have to go to the NICU, it's worth it.
Yeah. Awesome.
Oh yeah, and Chris was a good boy too.

RUN RUN RUN

An appeal to all my faithful blog stalkers...
God smacked me in the head this morning. He didn't send an earthquake, but almost. I am meant to do the March of Dimes "March For Babies" tomorrow. Yes. That's right. Tomorrow. 1:30 Plainfield. I just signed us up for a 4 mile walk. It's in the middle of naptime, but God is calling...and you know what happens when we don't listen. "He MAKETH me to lie down in Green Pastures." Those of you who know us well, know how Chris is doing healthwise and what a blessing it is to have him be so normal, given what a bumpy start he had....see his blog for the first 6 months of his life. www.christopher.willman.com
I have had no time to properly raise funds, but I want to do as much as I can. So I'm going to ask those of you who stalk my blog, please donate. Every little penny helps.

That's our Team Link. Seriously. Every little bit helps.

I'd also appreciate any additional folks who want to participate if you are open to passing up on Sunday afternoon naps to walk 4 miles for the kids....I am.
