Oil Fest

 309/365

Sorry about the blurriness of this photo, we were just too busy having a good time to take a great picture.  As you can see last night, I had some friends and fam over for an Oily Fest at my house.  This month, my goal has been to Develop my Team.  And I think it helps to make different things with our oils, and I can chat about some of our special oils and things.  I had just received my Essence of the Season kit, so I was able to pass around Christmas Spirit for the gals to smell.  We opted to make some lip balm.  I had found the cutest containers at Walmart, tiny round bead holding containers with screw on lids.

For our lip balm I used this recipe I found online.   It called for 1 ounce beeswax, all I had were 1 1/2 ounce pieces I got at Whole Foods.   So I put it in a glass batter jar over a pot of boiling water.   Once it was melted I added a heaping tablespoon of cocoa butter, and a heaping tablespoon of shea butter.  Once they were all melted we added 2 heaping tablespoons of coconut oil.   The recipe called for 20 drops of peppermint and 10 of lavender, but I wanted peppermint orange, which I've decided is a perfect holiday scent, I've been diffusing it all over the place.  We compromised, and as I pulled it off the burner, I added 20 drops of Peppermint.  Then I poured off a third of it into a glass.  To the glass we added about 3-4 drops of Lavender.  Then to the rest in my hands we added 6-7 drops of Orange oil.   Then we began to pour into our molds.  It cooled pretty quickly.  And cleaning out the glass, I got it all over me, and the cocoa butter makes it smell chocolatey which I really loved with the peppermint and orange.  It smells like a Starbucks beverage!

The finished products!

The other Oily Project we made, was more of a pinterest fail.   I had found this recipe for Toilet Bombs.  It looked great, making my own cute little foamy toilet bowl cleaners, making something that won't make the kids or dog sick.  Toilet health is vital in our family!   It called for 1 1/3 cup of baking soda, 1/3 cup of Citric Acid. I had finally found citric acid at Meijer on our anniversary when I went on a flip flop run in the canning section, so that I finally had the ingredients.  And we added the LLP oils.  So we made it, but we ended up with a dust, not anything that could be forced into a shape.  Though honestly, I was just planning on putting it in a cupcake mold.  That didn't work.  If you add water, it fizzes, so making it with gloves may be a good idea in the future, my friend Amanda was the blender, and she said her fingertips felt funny, I figure they may have gotten a bit of reaction.  So all the attendees got their cup or so put into a baby food jar, to test out at home. No pics of that.
